Early in the semester, students will create lesson plans designed to teach a study strategy. These sample lesson plans are considered a model only.
Chapter mapping is a notemaking strategy that works best with well-structured expository text. It results in notes from one chapter or chapter section on one side of one piece of paper -- portable and concise! Combined with the SQ3R strategy, it becomes a powerful strategy for independent learning.
Cornell notes, also known as Palmatier's notes and 2-column notes, is an excellent notemaking strategy for both lecture and reading. It works best with expository text, and is most effective when combined with the suggested review methods.
Graphic representation is a notemaking strategy that is most useful with well-structured expository text, but it will work with both narrative and expository text. It requires the reader to organize the information in a way that makes sense to the reader.
This file describes the INSERT strategy for notemaking. INSERT promotes metacognitive thinking for students. It is excellent for both narrative and expository text.
