The International Center on Service-Learning in Teacher Education will bring together teacher educators from around the world to revisit the Brussels conference outcomes, to clarify service-learning language, share professional work, and explore possibilities for future collaboration on issues of research, policy, and practice. The conference will also feature research, citizenship education, student and faculty exchange, and technological connections through the special interest groups.

We also encourage teacher educators, educational leaders, K-12 teachers (kindergarten through second level of secondary schooling) and student teachers/interns experienced in service-learning to participate.

Location

The Conference will be held on the ancient campus of the National University of Ireland at Galway, a city near the breathtaking Western coast of Ireland. Facilities include A full-service hotel and conference centre on the campus. Galway is located North of Shannon International Airport.

Submissions and Registration

The Committee invites interested service-learning teacher educators to help make this an historic and productive conference by:

• Submitting a proposal for a 90-minute workshop, a panel discussion, or a 45-minute roundtable discussion

• The Call for Proposals will be posted on this page.

• Communicating with colleagues who would be interested in participating

• Marking your calendars for 25-27 June 2009!

Registration screens will be available in September 2008.

How to Participate

We are delighted to welcome new participants “virtually” to the Brussels conference experience. By registering, you will benefit from the three compelling keynote addresses and 10 conference sessions selected for their relevance. You will also be joining a network of committed professional service-learning educators worldwide.

Registration fee is 35,00€ ($50.00 USD) for “virtual conference” participants.

This proposal provides a brief review of the research to date in the field of service-learning in teacher education; an agenda for future research and strategies for realizing it; and a time-line for the International Center’s future research-related efforts.
